Introduction

The maritime industry is governed by international regulations that establish standards for the employment, welfare, safety, and rights of seafarers. Among these regulations, the Maritime Labour Convention, 2006 (MLC, 2006) serves as a comprehensive framework that protects seafarers while promoting fair competition and compliance within the maritime sector.

This course provides participants with an overview of maritime labour law and the key requirements of MLC, 2006, focusing on seafarers' rights and obligations, employment conditions, working and rest hours, occupational health and safety, complaint procedures, and compliance requirements.
